8th Grade State Championship Team bios:

Up

HW Generals (Eastern) The Hamilton-Wenham 8th Grade Generals won the Cape Ann Title in the 5th and 6th grade, lost in the finals in the 7th Grade to Masco and in the 8th Grade semi-finals to North Andover this year. Overall, the team is 90-10 in the last 4 years. The team also played in the Eastern League this season falling to Wakefield's 9th grade team in the finals by 1 point. They have won tournaments at Basketball City, Cedardale and other locations and is looking forward to playing against some great teams this tournament

Lynn 8A (NSSL) The champions of the North Shore Suburban League have had an outstanding 4 years of basketball together. The team is very quick and tenacious on defense and well coached

Peabody 8A (NSSL) Peabody is a very good team coached by Jim Silvio. They play strong defense and move the ball very well. They were 15-1 in the Suburban League of Boston. They lost a heartbreaker to Everett in the Suburban League semi-finals this past year. The previous year, they finished in first place in the Cape Ann League.

Sacred Heart
(Catholic League) Our team is competitive and versatile. Most of the players have been playing together off and on since 4th grade. The Bradford Hawks consists mostly of 8th grade players in the Sacred Hearts Parish. The group has won many tournaments in and around the Merrimack Valley as well as in New Hampshire. Our team will usually have 9 players who have had the same coach and teammates through most of their school season. Most of the boys play on 3 teams during the basketball season and are well rounded basketball players. We wish everybody good luck and best wishes for the upcoming tournament.

Swampscott (CYO) - The St. John's of Swampscott Cadet Team arrives in the State Travel tournament after a third place regular season finish in the North Shore CYO Basketball league. The Cadets were led by a balanced attack throughout the regular season, including three players who scored over 100 points — A.J. Baker (124), Randolph Thurman (114) and Michael Walsh (104). AJ Baker(15) and Patrick Kennedy(6) led the team in three pointers. Sean O'Brien led the team in free throw percentage at 80%. The team is deep with 17 players and features strong rebounding from Ben Callahan, Richie Sullivan, Jermaine Kelly, Michael Wynne, and James Beane.  Head coach Ed Thurman is a former Northeast Conference and Globe All-Scholastic at Lynn Classical High School where he is a member of the Hall of Fame.

Masconomet (CAL) - The Chieftans have won the Cape Ann League the last 2 years, knocking off Hamilton-Wenham last year and North Andover this year. The team has been together for 4 years with a 50-8 record.

Beverly (EL/CAL) Beverly has been together for 4 years participating in 2 travel leagues. This year they finished 3rd overall in the Cape Ann League and are presently in the EL playoffs. The team has enjoyed many successes including capturing the 8th Grade Summer League championship and the February 2008 School Vacation Tourney.

Malden 8A (Eastern) Malden's 8th graders have won the Eastern League in the 7th grade and lost to Lynn in the 8th grade finals.

Milton (MWBB) Milton's 8th grade travel team had a lot of injuries this year. We started 16-0 in the Metrowest 8th Grde Division 1 League and then lost our best player to a separated shoulder. We finished the year 24-6 losing to Canton in the championship missing our power forward. We won this year's Muscato tournament in Easton. The team is coached by Mike Reddington & Ted Curley.
